Telstra Hologram

Telstra demonstrated some exciting technology in Adelaide, Australia today.

Telstra chief technology officer, Dr Hugh Bradlow projected a life-sized, real-time, high definition image of himself onto a transparent screen as he walked, talked and interacted with the audience in Adelaide while he stood in front of cameras in Telstra’s Melbourne office.

This is not the first demonstration of the technology, developed by British company Musion Eyeliner, it was used by Al Gore on the Live Earth concert in London and at the 2005 MTV Awards.

Telstra enterprise and government group managing director David Thodey says the technology can be used for global conferencing, saving time, money and reducing emissions.

The high definition holographic video projection system took about half a day to set up for the presentation and used Telstra’s Next IP network for the transmission.

I remember being impressed with this, when my friend (who is the manager for a lot of the conferencing technology for in Australia) told me about the installations he had done in Telstra’s boardroom.

It would certainly take watching the footy to a new level. [Source]
